Edmonds set to get ‘cleanup’ surgery

Cardinals center fielder Jim Edmonds will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to
address a problematic right shoulder condition that affected him for much of
last season.

Five days after agreeing to a two-year, $19 million contract that allowed the
Cardinals to retain the Gold Glove center fielder, Edmonds will have bone
shaved from near the arthritic joint of his shoulder blade and collarbone.
Cardinals medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta will perform the procedure,
which isn’t expected to complicate Edmonds’ availability for spring training.
