The Dodgers, angling to protect themselves against the possible loss of free-agent right-hander Greg Maddux, are the front-runners to sign free-agent left-hander Randy Wolf, FOXSports.com has learned.

Wolf, 30, has informed at least one of his suitors that he is close to signing with another club. Rival executives say that club is the Dodgers, and the proposed deal is believed to be for one year with a club option for 2008.

Orioles, RP Danys Baez agree to pact

The Orioles have struck out to this point in adding a slugger to the middle of their lineup, but they are having no such problems in overhauling their bullpen. According to club sources, the Orioles have agreed in principal to a three-year deal with Atlanta Braves free-agent reliever Danys Baez, who will join recent acquisition Jamie Walker as one of Chris Ray’s primary set-up men.

Baez’s deal hinges on the right-hander passing a physical, which could happen as early as Monday. Though exact terms of the deal aren’t known, it is believed the Orioles will pay between $5 million and $6 million per season for the 29-year-old pitcher, who has 111 saves in six big league seasons.

Manny to San Francisco?

26 11 2006

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Boston Red Sox and the Giants have discussed a potential deal that would involve slugging left-fielder Manny Ramirez…

(11-26) 18:27 PST — As the Giants work to complete a three-year contract with center fielder Dave Roberts, they are talking to the Red Sox about acquiring one of Roberts’ former teammates in Boston, a big fish named Manny Ramirez.

Sources on Sunday confirmed a rumor originating in Boston that the Giants are among the teams talking seriously to the Red Sox about their disgruntled, temperamental yet unquestionably talented slugger. Ramirez, 34, is a .314 career hitter who has swatted at least 33 home runs with at least 102 RBIs in each of the last nine seasons.

Broncos to name Cutler starting QB over Plummer.

DENVER (AP) — The Jay Cutler Era is expected to begin Monday, when the reeling Denver Broncos return from a three-day furlough, a team in disarray.

The Broncos, coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in two years, face the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 3, and the rookie from Vanderbilt will almost assuredly be the one taking snaps from center Tom Nalen instead of Jake Plummer, who has started the Broncos’ last 46 games.
