Rams to pay Faulk roster bonus (STL Today)

Bernie Miklasz of 1380 ESPN (and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch) had St. Louis Rams President of Football Operations Jay Zygmunt on his radio program, The ITD Roll Home with Bernie Miklasz and Randy Karakker on Thursday afternoon.

Here’s the recap, courtesy of Miklasz on his online forum, Bernie’s Pressbox

Zyggy is on 1380…. will pay the $225k … but Marshall is going to be meeting with doctors to get a gauge on his knee … and Jay is talking with Marshall’s agent… hopes to have something resolved soon. Sounds like a medical settlement coming up… best guess, anyway …

(Marshall won’t be back, though Jay won’t say that, can’t say that, yet).

Jay didn’t have much to offer about what the team plans to pursue in FA, but that’s to be expected. He never tips his hand.

Bargains and risks: the NFL free agent market

Clayton: Bargain and risks on the NFL free agent market (ESPN.com)

ESPN’s John Clayton provides his own analysis of the NFL free agent market of 2007. Clayton’s lead:

Finding bargains in an overpriced market might be difficult. Every player who hits free agency Friday expects to hit the lottery. NFL teams enter this market with great trepidation. To sign top free agents, general managers must adjust to the idea of paying close to $7 million a year for guards, $5 million for a top tight end and more than $7 million for defensive ends.

The Adam Wainwright conundrum revisited

1 03 2007

Back in November, The Buried Lead took a look at then-St. Louis Cardinals closer Adam Wainwright’s role for the 2007 club. In that article, we suggested that the club should be looking at keeping Wainwright in his role due to the possibility that Jason Isringhausen, the prior closer, would be struggling to comeback from hip surgery that was conducted in September. We won't be seeing this occuring in 2007 (MLB.com)

It’s now March 1 and the times have changed.

Wainwright started the spring schedule as a starter, allowing no hits in three innings of work against the Florida Marlins on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Isringhausen appears to have hit his stride on the bullpen mounds, reporting no discomfort after his sessions and is starting to use his legs to drive him towards the plate. The hip injury greatly hindered the pitcher’s ability to rotate forward, causing him to essentially come off the ball and use a delivery that was all arm. This improvement has provided the team with much relief in that they can use Wainwright in the starting rotation for the 2007 campaign.

Why is this a must for St. Louis?
